Yayoi Kusama at the Whitney Museum

We were so impressed with the Yayoi Kusama that just opened at the Whitney Museum. With paintings, drawings, film, large-scale installations, performance, sculpture, and photography all in Kusama's impressive portfolio, this retrospective is not something to be missed. The Japanese artist was born in 1929, and has always had a different view of the world than the average person. She moved to New York in 1957, where her work became more feminist and headed in the abstract expressionism direction. She checked herself into a mental hospital in 1977, when she started having psychiatric problems, and has voluntarily lived their since. Her signature polka dots are currently being featured on the outside of the 5th Ave Louis Vuitton store; the company is sponsoring the exhibit and currently promoting their large collaboration with the artist.
